Description:View of the chapel built in 1837, in the lancet Gothic style.'T.P.W.,' [Thomas Peploe Wood.] Originally a Chapel of Ease for Rugeley Parish, it was built of ashlar stone. The 2nd Earl Talbot donated the site and the stone, from his Weston quarry. It is seen here as built by Thomas Trubshaw prior to addition of the 1878 extensions by Sir George Gilbert Scott and the tower modification and chiming clock which were added for the 1887 Jubilee. Brereton was a separate parish from 1843 and on the assigning of an Ecclesiastical District to Brereton in the same year the chapel became St. Michael's Church. There is a clear view up to Stile Cop on the left horizon.
